CAD Standards
1.0 General
1.1. All drawings shall be prepared with AutoCAD 2002 minimum.
1.2. Drawings shall be prepared full size in
model space and displayed to scale in paper space.
1.3. Border shall be paper space.
1.3.1 Download border here. DesignTech Border
1.4. Entities shall be drawn with color designated as Bylayer.
2.0 Standards
2.1. Drawings shall conform to the following standards as applicable:
2.1.1. National CAD Standard
2.1.2. AIA CAD Layering Guidelines
2.1.3. CSI Uniform Drawing System
2.1.4. US Army Corp of Engineers A/E/C CADD Standard.

The A/E/C CADD Standard has been developed by The CADD/GIS Technoloy Center to reduce redundant CADD standardization efforts within the Army, Navy, Air Force and Corps of Engineers. The A/E/C CADD Standard includes presentation graphics, level/layer assignments, electronic file naming, and standard symbology. Please visit https://tsc.wes.army.mil/products/standards/aec/aecstdweb.asp for downloads of standard layer naming convention and symbology.
3.0 Text Fonts
3.1. DesignTech LLC uses certain text fonts normally not included with the AutoCad
product in it’s drawings. These fonts have been included in the file Fonts.zip.
Place these files in the Fonts sub-directory of the AutoCad product directory.
3.2. Minimum text height shall be 0.09” as displayed in paper space.
4.0 Pen Color Chart
4.1. The file Pen Color Chart.zip contain several drawings depicting charts which
explain the color assignment of entities by DesignTech LLC. These assignments
ensure predictable plotting results if used in conjunction with the plot styles
provided. The numbers appearing inside each box of the color chart
corresponds with a standard AutoCad color. The file Plot Screening and Fill
Patterns.dwg (found in the zip file referenced above) provides reference to
these standard AutoCad colors. These logical assignments ensure that all
color numbers with the same last digit (with exception of numbers 1-9), will
plot the same. These assignments also allow for maximum use of colors,
although colors 1-9 are the major players.
5.0 Plot Styles
5.1. DesignTech LLC uses color dependant plotting. All objects that share the same
color are plotted the same way. The file Plot Styles.zip contain various plot
style files for plotting DesignTech LLC drawings in their intended appearance. The
*.ctb files are intended to be used with AutoCad versions 2000 and up.
The *.pcp file may be used with pre-AutoCad 2000 versions.
6.0 Layer Styles
6.1. DesignTech LLC’s drawing layers conform to the AIA Cad Layering Guidelines.
Standard templates have been created with many layers defined with corresponding

Standard templates have been created with many layers defined with corresponding
linetypes and layer colors. Layers not included in the templates shall be created
conforming to the AIA Cad Layering Guideline. A description of this system may be found
in the US Army Corp of Engineers A/E/C CADD Standard. (see above). Please select
